Curriculum Intent

  • Children have the opportunity to explore and learn from the past
  • Lessons are knowledge led and the best resources and activities to match the learning intentions are use
  • Wherever possible, lessons are practical to ensure children are engaged
  • Children will have a clear chronology of History from Stone Age to the present day and how things have progressed

Curriculum Implementation

Our History lessons fire the children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world. They play an essential part in preparing children for living and working in the contemporary world.

Pupils consider how the past influences the present, what past societies were like, how these societies organised their politics, and what beliefs and cultures influenced people’s actions. As they do this, children develop a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people. They develop an understanding about themselves as individuals and members of society. What they learn can influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values.

Curriculum Impact

We know that our history curriculum has had a positive impact on the children as they demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject, and can talk with confidence about different aspects of it. They understand a range of historical vocabulary and can apply in to a variety of contexts. As historians, our children can use their skills to pose questions, evaluate evidence and draw conclusions.

Their memorable experiences here at Castle will help our children to understand their own place in history, challenging them to make sense of the similarities and differences in human experiences across time and place.
