Years 2 and 3 2018 - 2019

Mr Evans

Ms Challenor

Mrs Findler

Miss Jackson

Welcome back, everybody in Years 2 and 3!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer holiday and is raring to go for a brand new school year!

Bulletin Board:

  • Our P.E. afternoons are now Tuesdays and Wednesdays

  • Remember to bring your reading book and reading record to school every day

  • Don't forget your pumps/trainers every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for Active Maths!

Topic

Our History topic this term is... a surprise! However, here is a clue:

When we delve into our History topic, we shall be developing our learning skills by making time lines, exploring the beliefs and ideas people held in this time period, talking about the causes and effects of events in the past and creating written texts, diagrams, artworks and presentations to explain and explore what we have learnt. We shall be using our literary and imaginative skills to write as if I were living in the past, in the style of an autobiography or diary.

English

English will be taught by Ms Challenor this term and will continue to be linked to our topic where possible,  focusing on spelling, sentence structures and using a wider range of puctuation through a wide variety of text genres. The children will continue with  daily differentiated phonics and spelling sesions which aim to improve essential reading and spelling skills whole school.

Maths

Mrs Lord will be teaching Maths. We will be working with increasingly large numbers. We will be learning new skills through real life problem solving which will be linked to our topic wherever possible, and, weather permitting, will include regular outdoor maths sessions.  Children need to continue to work hard at home to learn key number facts - times tables up to 12 x 12 and number bonds to 20. This is something parents can really help with!

Daily 'Active Maths' sessions for all pupils that combine practice of maths skills and physical excercise seems to be paying off with good progress whole school with mental maths skills. Remember: your child will need to have either PE pumps or trainers in school every day in order to ensure they don't miss out!! In addition this term we are introducing a daily times tables challenge slot to  allow for further key skills practice resulting in even better Castle mathematicians!!!

Science

Our Autumn Term topic in Science, taught by Ms Challenor, is Forces and Magnets. This exciting topic includes plenty of opportunity for practical experiments and investigations, asking questions, measuring (applying our Maths knowledge, of course) and recording results.

What do we need to remember to bring to school?

Our PE days this term are Tuesday & Friday. Please make sure you bring your kit (T-shirt, shorts / jogging bottoms and  trainers). All long hair should be tied back and under no circumstances should jewellery be worn.

Spellings and homework tasks will be given out every week.  Don't forget...part of your homework is to read every night at home...

Please remember to bring your reading book every day in order to read in class and to an adult if necessary. If you need to change your book, remember to put it next to the black book box and one of our teaching staff will make it happen!

Golden Afternoon activities on a Friday will now be a session after Topic and will be led by Ms Challenor. The children will stay together as a class for this activity.

HERE'S TO A GREAT NEW YEAR! :)
